A Statistical Study on the Causative Factors of Chronic Fatigue among Workers

Abstract
This study was carried out analytically on the causative factors of chronic fatigue on 10, 923 (8, 881. in male and 2, 042 in female) workers using self-filled questionnaires which consisted of items for subjective complaints of fatigue and its related determinants, i. e. subjective health condition, opinion for the cause of illness, smoking, drinking, marital status, number of children, work hour, regularity of meal time and body weight change.
The study was performed on the relationship between the subjective complaints of fatigue and its related determinants in the context of sex, age group and occupation. Also a statistical analysis for the relative risk and dose-response relation was performed.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The highest age group of respondents was the age group of 3039 years, (38.4%) in male and the age group of under 29 years (72. 1%) in female. And occupationally other industrial workers showed the highest value of 21.5 in male and 21.7% in female.
2. The frequency of fatigue complaint was 20.7% in male and 26.4% in female, and was significantly higher in the age group of under 39 years than that. of over 40 years in both sexes.
3. The frequency of fatigue complaint could be related to subjective health condition, opinion for the cause of illness, work hour and regularity of meal time with high significance in both sexes.
The body weight change in male and in female under 39 years of age could be regarded as significant determinants for chronic fatigue. But marital status couldn¢¥t be related to chronic fatigue in both sexes and all age groups. Also the number of children was not significant as determinants in both sexes and all age groups except only in female under 30 years of age.
4. In both sexes, the relative body weight group under 89% complained fatigue more frequently except for female under 40 years of age.
5. In the view point of occupation, the frequency of fatigue complaint was in the order of metal processors, welders, cotton and textile workers, vehicle drivers and conductors, clerical and officials of school and governmental office and teachers in male, and in the order of chemical processors, clerical and managers of industry, teachers, vehicle drivers and conductresses, salesmen, cotton and textile workers in female.
6. The relative risk was the highest in the group of poor health condition in both sexes and all age groups, and weight loss, irregularity of meal time in order. Also dose-response relation was consisted in both sexes and all age groups.
7. The relative risk by occupation was the highest in the metal processors of under 39 years of age, the clerical and officials of school and governmental office over 40 years of age in male, and the chemical processors under 39 years of age, the teachers over 40 years of age in female.
